The Ekman Co-Parenting Journal

Those of us who work with children and families adjusting to divorce often suggest that parents communicate with each other through a written journal. Until now, however, there has never been a tool to help parents do this.  Mr. Ekman and I have designed this Co-Parenting Journal to help parents establish constructive communication patterns as they make the difficult transition from marriage to divorce.  In almost all families this is a stressful time for everyone.  Communication between divorcing parents may be so difficult that critical parenting issues are ignored or left  unresolved.  It may be extremely difficult for parents to avoid communicating negative feelings about each other to their children or to avoid involving the children inappropriately in parental disputes.

We have developed the Co-Parenting Journal to facilitate constructive exchanges of important information between parents about their children.  It is designed to make observation and communication as constructive and easy as possible and to assure both parents' equal participation in the co-parenting process.  In addition, all critical, information about the kids  (medical, dental, insurance, education, social, etc.) is recorded in the booklet for each
parent's ready access.

The goal of the journal is to assure that no child is ever left unattended.
